Democratic Party deputy chairman Andi Mallarangeng has cast doubt over losing presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri’s ability to present enough evidence of electoral fraud to lead the Constitutional Court to revising the official vote tally.
Andi, also the presidential spokesman, said Tuesday at the State Palace in Jakarta there was nothing “significant” in the evidence collected by Megawati’s team.
“It’s their right to file the report, but we’ve seen no clear evidence,” he said.
“So I guess the Constitutional Court will uphold the KPU’s [General Elections Commission] vote count.”
The national polls body officially announced Saturday that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his running mate, former central bank governor Boediono had won the presidential election with 60.8 percent of the vote.
The Yudhoyono campaign team head, State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, said Megawati’s claims of having uncovered 28 million invalid votes benefiting the incumbent did not make sense.
“There were witnesses at all polling stations,” he said.
“There were polling officials, local communities and the media watching. There were the vote tally forms signed by all witnesses.
“Everything was transparent and obvious. Now let’s use common sense, let’s use logic: where did the 28 million invalid votes come from?”
